A brief overview of what we've done, doing, and want to do to reduce Virgin Trains' carbon footprint
and impact on the environment in 2007.

- We serve Fair Trade hot drinks on all our trains and in our First Class lounges.
- We have installed multi-functional devices (for faxing, printing and photocopying) in our offices
that will reduce energy and paper usage.
- We now print on office paper from either recycled or sustainable sources.
- We recycle the majority of our office paper at our two head offices at London Euston and Birmingham.
- We recycle mobile phones and printer cartridges through our Virgin Unite charity schemes. This
ensures the proceeds from the recycling go to the Virgin Group's charities.
- We recycle our fluorescent light tubes used on our stations.
- We have trained our drivers in economic and energy saving driving techniques on both our train
fleets.
- We have set up recycling facilities for papers and magazines coming off southbound trains arriving
at London Euston.
- We have calculated the CO2 emissions of our most common West Coast journeys and compared them to planes and cars as part of the forthcoming Go Greener Go Cheaper campaign.

- Where possible we recycle our old PCs through the Computer Aid scheme and will continue to
do so throughout the IT Transformation plan for 2007.
- We are currently reviewing our uniforms to make as much of it as possible machine washable
instead of dry cleanable which is much better for the environment.
- We have joined the Envirowise "Big Splash" campaign to reduce water consumption at
our stations and Envirowise are working with our property and procurement specialists to advise
as to how we can reduce our utilities consumption overall.
- We are also working with Envirowise and Rail Gourmet to reduce our food packaging on board
our trains.
- Extending the onboard recycling to Wolverhampton and starting announcements to customers about
separating their papers and magazines for the cleaner to take away on trains terminating there.
- We are writing a new Corporate Social Responsibility statement.

- Extend the on board recycling to the rest of the northbound West Coast services and expand
the separation of waste from just papers and magazines to plastics too.
- As part of our promise to take climate change seriously and reduce our impact on the environment,
we are aiming to produce a plan for carbon reduction across the company.
- We are also considering investigating the carbon emissions in our supply chain.
- We want to attain ISO14001 environmental management accreditation and promote its use with
our main suppliers.
- With the rest of the Virgin Group, we are developing a campaign which will aim to educate consumers
about the carbon in the products they buy in their everyday lives, inspire them to reduce their
carbon footprint and encourage them to take action to offset their carbon in innovative ways.
